Clinical safety

Written to be checked

Every statement on this page describes something the app does today. Nothing here is a plan, a roadmap item, or a standard we have not been assessed against — because a safety page is the one place where an aspirational claim is a liability rather than optimism.

01

We do not diagnose, and we say so where it matters

GetMomiCare organises what you choose to record and explains it in plain English. It does not diagnose, does not tell you a symptom is nothing, and does not rule anything out. Where a pattern is worth raising, it says so and points to your midwife or GP rather than offering an opinion. Our AI is instructed never to diagnose, and the guidance it gives at difficult moments is covered by automated tests that check the wording itself.

02

Safety information is never behind a payment

Red-flag symptoms, crisis lines, NHS routes and the mental health directory are available to everyone, in every version of the app, whether or not they pay. A woman deciding whether to call her midwife must never meet a payment screen. This is a design rule we hold regardless of commercial pressure.

03

Emergency routes work without a signal

Crisis numbers — Samaritans, NHS 111, PANDAS, Tommy's — are stored in the app rather than fetched. They work with no data, no account and no connection, because the moment someone needs them is not the moment to discover the network is down.

04

We do not guess when we do not know

The app shows no cycle prediction until it has enough logged history to make one, and says why. A faint pregnancy test is never reported as a positive. Where a figure is an estimate — nutrition from a recipe, a shelf life we have not been told — it is labelled as an estimate. An invented number is worse than a blank space, because someone may act on it.

05

Difficult moments are handled deliberately

A negative pregnancy test, a period arriving during the two-week wait, and an early loss are written and tested as their own cases. Nothing celebratory or streak-based fires at those moments, the wording changes for someone who has told us she has had a loss, and support is offered every time. This is covered by automated tests that assert the copy, because the failure here is not a crash — it is a sentence that hurts someone.

06

Your health records stay on your phone

Scans, results, letters, MATB1s and everything else in the document vault are stored on your device and are never uploaded to us — including the list of what they are. That also means we cannot recover them if you lose your phone, which we would rather tell you than quietly hold a copy.

Your data, specifically

Reproductive and maternal health data is among the most sensitive there is. These are the arrangements, stated plainly enough to hold us to.

What GetMomiCare is not

  • Not a medical device. It is not registered with the MHRA and does not perform a medical purpose as defined under UK MDR. It records what you tell it and explains it back.
  • Not clinical decision support. No clinician uses it to make a decision about your care, and it does not send alerts to any care team.
  • Not connected to the NHS. We hold no NHS contract and are not integrated with any trust system. Where we point at NHS services, we are pointing at their public information, the same as anyone.
  • Not a substitute for care. If something is wrong, the app's job is to help you notice and to get you to someone qualified faster — not to answer it.

If that changes — if we build anything a clinician acts on — this page will say so, and we will meet the standards that come with it (DCB0129 clinical risk management, DTAC assessment and MHRA classification) before shipping it, not after.

Found something wrong?

If any statement on this page does not match what the app does, we want to know before anyone else does. The same goes for anything in the app that gave you information you believe is unsafe, or that failed you at a moment when it mattered.
